Program Purpose
Target Population
- Nonviolent felony offenders approved through District Attorney diversion criteria
- Low- to moderate-risk individuals contributing to jail overcrowding
- Individuals needing employment, behavioral intervention, or re-entry support
- (Excludes violent or high-risk offenders.)
Municipal Court
Typical Cases Handled:
- Traffic Violations: Speeding tickets, driving without a license, or driving under the influence (DUI).
- City Ordinance Violations: Code enforcement issues like public nuisance, unleashed dogs, or noise complaints.
- Misdemeanors: Low-level, non-jury criminal offenses such as minor theft or trespassing.
- Preliminary Hearings: For more serious charges, municipal courts may hold initial hearings to decide if a case should be escalated to a higher county or state court.
